Electric Game |

It feels good to be in the postseason, my first one. This game is going to be real electric.
The Eagles are a very talented team and they are going to come back at us with a lot of firepower. I love the challenge that this organization brings. Coach Andy Reid has done a lot of great things for his team and is a veteran at getting his team ready for playoff games.
DeSean Jackson is a very talented receiver, tough to stop. He’s fast and shifty and can give you a really hard time if you’re not prepared for him. He’s my favorite wide receiver to guard and brings a challenge every play. He really makes you watch your P’s and Q’s.
We will definitely have to be focused and bring a lot of energy to this game. It’s very hard to beat a team three times in one season. Mike Jenkins is a cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys. His blog for www.playerpress.com runs at www.mikejenkins21.com. Follow him on Twitter as mikejenkins21. |

Cowboys Are On a Roll |

First of all I’d like to say Happy Holidays to all the great Cowboys fans out there.
Man, it feels good right now for the ’Boys, we are really on a roll and putting things together. Most importantly, we are playing as one accord and finishing strong.
Me on the other hand, I am really grateful to be in this situation. Coming into the season I was battling with Orlando to be a starter, and I definitely think that made me work harder and made me a better player. Orlando pushed me to my limit to make me a better player and likewise. I think I have to give him most of the credit for pushing me to what’s been a great season so far.
Now, I’m healthy and just really excited to experience a playoff berth with my team! We have had two great weeks and have plans to stay on this roll as far as it takes us.

Ready for Camp |

I’m just ready to get into camp. I’m focused and ready to get this season popped off.
I’ve been going out to IMG here in Bradenton every day, working out with guys like Ryan Grant, Fabian Washington, Cliff Avril and a lot of others from Sportstars. But today was my last day as I shut it down and get my body back right, hit the cold tub through the weekend and just focus.
Working out meant speed drills in the morning and power in the afternoon, running hills, pushing sleds, working with medicine balls, just keeping the body moving. You have to have everything equal and balanced out for when you go to camp.
Just ready to get back into football. I’m definitely looking forward to training camp and getting back into it. We’ve been away for a while, in college it’s like you go year-round. OTAs weren’t really anything.
It’s about time to get back into the equation, get the preseason going and get back in tune.

| Far From My Peak |

Because of all the talk that’s been going on about my last blog, let me say this: I don’t think the starting job is mine because of the round and pick I was drafted, and I don’t think it’s going to be given to me because there’s favoritism.
That’s not my way.
I’m far from my peak, I have not played or showed any comparison to what I did at South Florida and a lot of fans, writers, coaches don’t know that. Me and Orlando are two totally different players. You can’t coach me the same way you coach him. Just like Nnamdi and Asante Samuel, we have two totally different styles.
So for closure, I’m coming into camp with a chip on my shoulder and I think the job will be mine because of the confidence I have in myself and not because of anything else! Everyone is trying to make this a big issue when this is just a needle in a haystack. The big picture is to win our games no matter who the starter is and make the playoffs.
Point blank, period.

| My Job to Keep |

Heading into training camp I’m the starter at right cornerback, and my job is to maintain that position. I’m back in Florida training at IMG to get my body right, get my head right, be mentally ready heading into the season.
It’s time to show anyone doubting me, and even the fans backing me up, that I’m the guy the Cowboys wanted coming out of college.
As a starter the coaches put a lot more pressure on you to make sure you’re ready for the season. It’s tough because I feel like any mistake I make there’s someone waiting to take the job away from me.
It’s my job to lose, but there’s a guy behind me with nothing to lose. If he makes a mistake, it’s not going to cause him to lose his job. If I make a mistake, the coaches are going to take a long, hard look at me in that position.
That’s the nature of being a starter in the NFL. You have to keep proving you’re good enough, that you deserve it. Some guys, like Terence Newman, Nnamdi Asomugha, Asante Samuels, they’re solidified. But until you get to that level you have to come out and prove yourself every day.
So I want to make sure I come back mentally focused, ready to show everybody that I’m a great player, I’m the guy they wanted coming out of college, that’s why they drafted me in the first round.

| I’m Now No. 21 |

I’m changing my jersey number from 31 to 21. It’s a long story, but at first Roy Williams had told me not to take 31, it was bad luck. Then I pulled my hamstring in practice. I also really admired Sean Taylor, so I’m switching to 21 this season.
My rookie season was definitely harder than I expected. I went in and thought I knew all the rules, but I learned the hard way. I learned real quick that the speed of the game is way faster and the game is much harder.
I would rate the season a 6 or 7 from 1-10. There’s a lot of room for improvement and I’m my own hardest critic.
It helped a lot to have Anthony Henry here. We both played at South Florida and from day one he took me under his wing. He sat me down and showed me everything, how to look at game film, how to be prepared. Terence Newman did the same things for me but I spent more time with Anthony because I knew him from South Florida and he took on the big brother role, took me out a couple nights, let me borrow his car when I didn’t have one.
With Anthony in Detroit now I think I have a good chance to move into the starting role. I have to be focused, go in in shape and be mentally tough. It should be a good camp competition between me and Orlando Scandrick to start at cornerback. I haven’t heard anything from the coaches about starting but I talked to our secondary coach and he said he wanted me to be a big part of the defense, that they are expecting me to grow into a big role.
I’m definitely going to come in and make a big impact on our defense this year. I want that starting role, I feel like I’m ready for the starting position. I want to make as many plays as I can with the goal of at least being an alternate for the Pro Bowl.
I want my name at least being mentioned somewhere when people are talking about the Pro Bowl.
